自製美白果酸潔顏慕斯 | DIY AHA + BHA Foaming Face Wash

I’ve been wanting to switch out of my Dr Bronner Castille Soap Cleaning Mousse to a syndet cleanser for a while now. Recently, one of my subscribers has requested for an AHA facial cleanser recipe on Youtube. So voila, here it is.

I love the exfoliating and brightening effects of salicylic acid but it’s doesn’t mix well with water based recipes. I like how by using a good dollop of glycerin solves the solubility issue and cancels out the over-cleaned skin-tightening feeling a foaming cleanser or a face wash with acid can have - killing two birds with one stone. I’ve chosen my beloved mandelic acid as a gentler choice of AHA, which I use in many of my other recipes. To avoid any undissolved powder, I use warm water around 40~50°C or 100~120°F to help. Before bottling, I run the cleansing liquid through a fine mesh strainer to avoid any residual particles which can clog the foam dispenser.

I’ve also added tea tree oil, since many people who seek AHA/BHA products are often looking for a solution for acne as well. Though I don’t have acne prone skin, I find it useful since we haven’t had to go into lock down in Taiwan and have to wear masks all day at work.

This is an easy and effective face wash. I prefer a face wash with a foam dispenser, because it’s easy to make and you don’t need to add any additional gum or thickener. I intentionally do not put additional surfactant to make it any foamier than it needs to be. I find it despicable for cosmetic companies to advertise thick foamy lather which is not only unnecessary but can possibly harm the skin. Face wash is meant to cleanse the skin, not to have a foam disco!
