My Lash History

I’ve liberated myself from mascara and lash curler since 2017 and never looked back. Long before that, I went to a professional lash extension salon continuously for a year in Sydney CBD. I stopped because I couldn’t bear the lash losses anymore despite religiously using lash serums containing bimatoprost. I became a daily user of magnetic lashes until the launch of magnetic eyeliner in 2019. I’ve tried magnetic liners and lashes from Lash Liner, Moxie Lash and Glamnetic, as well as products from Amazon. I even whipped up my own easy DIY Magnetic Eyeliner before I could get my hands on commercial options. I also dabbled into lash adhesive eyeliners, which from my experience, are completely gimmick. I’m pretty confident to call myself a lash connoisseur.

I’ve converted into Lashifism for almost a year now, and I’m in love. I didn’t purchase any Lashify products to start off with, as:

  1. I was happy with my magnetic liner and lashes

  2. I wasn’t sure if I’d like or be able to master the Lashify method

  3. Lashify seemed too expensive to me

  4. All the terms on Lashify are so confusing (Gossamer, Bondage, Whisper Light, Glass - it’s one thing trying to be cute and create a brand, but it’s so daunting before you join the cult!!)

My DIY Lash Extension Journey

I first tried the method with Ardell Lashtite Individual Lash Adhesive with Individuals lashes for a month or so, and found:

  1. Individual lashes fell off easily

  2. The lashes almost always come off with my natural lashes

  3. It’s extremely hard to place one cluster on one lash only - no wonder lash tech charges so much, it’s definitely a skill!

I decided to try and practice with KISS Falscara Starter Kit, a Lashify copycat. I was hooked. It’s such an elegant flutter without the thick dark magnetic liner, and it was much easier to apply than I thought. Granted, the placement of the lash spines looked a bit wonky, but no one is going to look up my nostril and stare at the root of my lashes from that angle. However, the lashes didn’t stay on overnight.

I found Brittany Vasseur’s tutorial DIY EYELASH EXTENSIONS AT HOME! Fast, Easy, Under $5! and purchased i-Envy Super Strong Hold Eyelash Adhesive Black with a bunch of different Ardell lashes, pre-cut and regular falsies. I was happier but my Sunday lash night was still quite stressful - it didn’t always last a full week and it was difficult to place the lashes on - there were good days/week and bad days/week. However, I was ready to toss my magnetic liner and commit to the cause, I mean to Lashify.

After watching countless reviews and YouTube tutorials, I didn’t consider the Lashify Control Kit. I didn’t think the Whisper Light adhesive would provide the lasting hold that I want. I purchased Bondage (strong black adhesive with mascara tip), Glass (clear and removes stickiness) and Night Bond (black sealant and removes stickiness at the spine), along with some Gossamers (pre-cut skinny spine lashes).

Why is Lashify Better

  1. The spine of the Gossamer lashes are just thinner and more comfortable to wear. Even the Fluffy F, which supposedly has a thicker spine, are still more comfortable than KISS or other brands.

  2. Bondage lasts the longest on me amongst other lash adhesive with mascara wand I’ve tried - bond from KISS Falscara and CALAILIS Individual Cluster Lash Glue

  3. Glass removes stickiness after application AND remains clear. The seal side from Falscara simply doesn’t quite do the job and leaves a white residue.

  4. Night Bond really helps to extend the hold and wear and there’s no product like it on the market.

How I apply

  1. I dip a q-tip in my DIY 5 in 1 Micellar Cleansing Water to clean my lashes on both eyes.

  2. I brush a thin and even coat of Bondage on my lashes on one eye.

  3. I brush a thin coat of i-Envy Super Strong Hold Eyelash Adhesive Black on the spine of the lashes for one eye - about 4~6 clusters depending on the style I am going for - and let them sit.

  4. I pick up a cluster and give it a quick blow before I place the lashes on either from my inner or outer corner. I then repeat to complete the set.

  5. I then use the matt tweezer I got from this set (more on tweezers below) to fuse/pinch my natural lashes with the extensions together, usually across two clusters at a time.

  6. Repeat on the other eye.

  7. Apply a thin coat of Night Bond at the root/spine of the lashes. I only dab a little Glass on when it’s necessary/where it feels sticky.

I found the above steps and tempo the easiest to apply. The time spaces between each step allows the adhesive, either on my lashes or on the spines dries down/becomes tacky to just right.

A Few Words on the Fuse Control Wand

I did purchase a Control Wand with Wandom. Unfortunately, I later discovered that these wands are handmade and have a big variety of opening - mine is very narrow. As a result, it’s very difficult for me to fuse or pinch an entire set of lashes together in one go. Instead, I could only use the concave side to “reverse fuse” or pinching section by section, which I can easily do with the matt tweezer I got from this set. At US$65 a piece, I’d expect the Fuse Control Wand to fuse/pinch automatically. Nonetheless, the rubber Wandom does make this step easier as the lashes are less likely to stick. I also found that the matt tweezers are less sticky than shiny ones. If you are not an international customer like me, it may be worth it to purchase the Fuse Control Wand and you can easily exchange and make sure your receive a proper wand.

My Lash Rituals

  1. I apply a fresh set every Sunday evening or before the start of a work week.

  2. I remove my set at the end of a work week, usually Friday evening.

  3. I use DIY 5 in 1 Micellar Cleansing Water in between to clean my lashes, and gently fuse in the morning or when it’s necessary.

  4. I apply a lash serum with bimatoprost Friday & Saturday evening, or on any of my resting lash-free nights.

  5. If I need to wear lashes for an occasion on the weekend, I’d use adhesive from KISS Falscara, and KISS Adhesive Black since it’s not as sticky, easier to remove, and easier on my natural lashes. I’d only use Glass to remove the stickiness and not Night Bond. I’d also wear lashes in my collection, from Ardell or what not, for a variety of style and to use them up.

Lash Loss

Yes, you can lose lashes with the Lashify method. I find this happens during the removal process. HOWEVER, if I’m gentle and careful during removal, I found that natural lash loss is quite minimal - nothing worse than removing mascara or using makeup remover wipes. It’s much much better than professional lash extensions. I do think it’s absolutely necessary to take breaks in order to maintain my healthy natural lashes. I also think it’s essential to use an effective lash serum, if you want to maintain this lifestyle. If you’d use skincare and hair masks, why wouldn’t you give your lashes a little love & nutrients to look pretty? Not to toot my own horn, though I do find using my DIY 5 in 1 Micellar Cleansing Water to clean the roots helps too. It contains allantoin and niacinamide which have multiple skin and hair benefits. I have not seen any commercial cleansing water to include these ingredients. Perhaps Lashify would consider adding some in their product line.

There, this is my lash journey thus far of the past few years. I’m finally content with the time, money and effort spent versus the result and daily appearances I can maintain.
